The development of the so called "organic food" in China can be divided in three stages: exploration stage (1990-1993); initial stage (1994-2001); fast developing stage (2002-).
The organic products certified in China by the Organic Food Development Center (OFDC), by the end of 2003, included over 370 varieties and cover a total of 307,000 ha.
Founded in 1994, the Organic Food Development Center, of the State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA) is the oldest and largest specialized organic research, inspection and certification organization and the only organic certifier in China that has been IFOAM (the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements) and ISO65 accredited.

Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG) nestles below Kwun Yum Shan (Goddess of Mercy Mountain) in Hong Kong central New Territories. Its deep-set valley has streams, woodland and terraces, together with conservation and education facilities.
